The rules of art must not regulate art.

“The rules of art must not regulate art. They have a function in describing existing art and can serve as an inspiration. If they are supposed to be more than that, they limit, restrict, and the product of this regulation would be the opposite of the artistic freedom to give form to the message of a work of art.”

Ben Evers (1966)

About Jef Artpoint

Jef Artpoint is the alter ego of the Dutch artist Ben Evers (1966). His works are characterized by a combination of graphic, surrealistic and organic ingredients. The artist mainly uses his own photos, which he modifies into alienated art through digital editing. For some series, vintage negatives are both a source of inspiration and part of the material used. The working method is usually project-based and motivated by issues that are part of the artist’s personal quest. The creations are only available as physical works.
The gift of a vivid imagination, the talent to scrutinize every perception, the desire to observe from a variety of angles enrich Jef Artpoint’s world and as a consequence his art. Read more in the short biography.

Jef Artpoint is not against (AI) artificial intelligence in general but never makes use of this option for his own art as he considers the human factor of real emotions translated into works of art the most important aspect of what he does.

Art Collection 'The Army of Frozen Souls'

The series 'The Army of Frozen Souls' aims to inspire the viewer to explore mechanisms that lead to peace rather than focusing on conflict.

For the series ‘The Army of the Frozen Souls’, the artist uses photos of German soldiers from the Second World War as a source of inspiration for peace. In his imagination, their souls freeze at the moment when their representation as a work of art is complete. In his own quest, the artist uses this crucial period in history as a medium to make visible the mechanisms that lead to conflicts and wars. Prejudice and condemnation are important ingredients of these mechanisms. The series ‘The Army of Frozen Souls’ aims to inspire the viewer to explore mechanisms that lead to peace rather than focusing on conflict.
The first  works of this series were created between 2019 and 2021 and belong to the so called first generation. These portraits are a clear  representation of German soldiers from the period between 1939 and 1945. The second generation of this series is more colorful and the soldiers are no longer tied to a specific country or era. It is still a work in progress.

‘What is art? Obviously there are innumerable answers to this question, but those who make art have found their very own answer merely by doing what they deem vital.’

The Fragmented World

A State of Being Fragmented

The series ‘The Fragmented World’ mirrors the transformation of the artist in his attempt to liberate himself from as many conflicting demands of the fragmented world as possible in order to enlarge the capacity to act upon his own intuition instead.

Obviously getting rid of all the fragments pulling on us has its limitations but being aware of what is influencing us reduces the impact and gives us more room to choose our own reactions to our heart’s desire. For the artist this newly gained freedom means that during the whole creative process of a new piece of art he can make use of the full gamut of his imagination without undesirable limitations. In the course of this authentic flow the artist literally becomes his own world with the abundant fragments of his own existence.
