Army of the frozen souls
For the series ‘The Army of the Frozen Souls’, the artist uses photos of German soldiers from the Second World War as a source of inspiration. In his imagination, their souls freeze at the moment when their representation as a work of art is complete.
These soldiers, like others, have firsthand experience of the horror that can occur when peace disappears. Their personal stories have been sealed, but in art, these men have been given a new task as ambassadors for peace. The portraits of these soldiers have the power of strong symbols. Strong symbols provoke powerful emotions in a split second. And these emotions can be either positive or, as in the case of the German soldiers from World War II, often negative. Under the same symbol, the swastika, monstrous psychopaths fought alongside ordinary soldiers who did not choose war.
In his own quest, the artist uses this crucial period in history as a medium to make visible the mechanisms that lead to conflicts and wars. Prejudice and condemnation are important ingredients of these mechanisms. The series “The Army of Frozen Souls” aims to inspire the viewer to explore peace mechanisms themselves. The works in this series were created between 2019 and 2021 and belong to the first generation. These portraits are a clear representation of German soldiers from the period between 1939 and 1945. The series is still a work in progress, and the new generation of soldiers is more colorful and no longer tied to a specific country or era.
The works from the series โArmy of the frozen soulsโ have matte acrylic glass. This glass has a very light shine. The depth of the artwork is accentuated and there are no reflections, regardless of the angle of view.
